At the fourth quarterly report of the K21 Quality Coordination Committee 2024, the leaders of the working groups reported on the results of the past quarter, ongoing work and changes.

On 6 December 2024, the exhibition „Fruits of Discord. Portraying the Ottoman Presence” opened at the Slovak National Gallery. The exhibition presents the interesting and dramatic history of Hungarian-Ottoman relations in the 16th and 17th centuries through the example of the cultural relations, including the Tamás Pálffy volume on loan from the ELTE University Library and Archives. The exhibition explores the period of Ottoman expansion in Hungary and the intercultural exchanges, with a special focus on Ottoman material culture in Central European art.

In Christmas time 2024, Schmidt Tamásné, bibliographer and processing librarian of the Collection Development Department, was awarded the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Certificate of Merit by the ELTE University Library and Archives, thanking her for the high quality and prestigious professional work.

As of 6 January 2025, the Archives will be open to researchers and clients in a new location and with extended opening hours.

The exhibition closed on 15 December 2024.

We are pleased to announce that JSTOR is offering a trial access to its text mining service, Constellate, available until June 2025. This unique opportunity allows ELTE students, faculty, and staff to explore Constellate’s advanced text and data mining tools, fostering research and innovation.

EBSCO has offered trial access to six databases until 31 December 2024.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on 5 December 2024 (Thursday) due to technical reasons. From Friday (6 December 2024), we will be open as usual. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

EBSCO has revamped its service platform, the EBSCOhost site. By January 7, 2025, only this new site will be available, which will include all old features and will be expanded with many new modern research options.

The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 2nd of December 2024 and the 18th of January 2025 until 22.00 hours. Our new community space offers the opportunity to learn, relax, use kitchen facilities and free computer access.

School libraries belonging to the ELTE library network can consult their documents in various databases. While maintaining these systems, the ELTE University Library and Archives developed a common search interface in 2011. The conversion of school library databases is done at regular intervals. Once a year, usually in November.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on the 29th November 2024 due to a university event.

Due to the relocation of our external warehouse, we would like to inform our readers that the books and doctoral dissertations stored there, as well as the entire stock of the library's periodicals, will be unavailable until the beginning of January 2025. Many of our books are still available for loan and current literature can be found on the open shelves. The exact date for the resumption of services will be announced on the library's website and social media platforms. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Our chamber exhibition on the Hungarian Jesuits' missions in South America, which opened in 2023 as part of the Cultural Heritage Days series, moved to the virtual space. Visitors to our exhibition are able to gain insight into a unique selection of manuscripts and printed material. The South American continent was one of the main scenes of the Jesuit Order's flourishing in the 18th century. It was here that the most enthusiastic and adventurous members of the Jesuit Order, including Jesuits of Hungarian origin, carried out their conversion work. Our series entitled „Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is the tuning fork of Dr. Gusztáv Bárczi, physician and teacher.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on 1 and 2 November 2024 (Friday and Saturday) in observance of the holiday. From Monday (4 November 2024), we will be open as usual.

During the autumn break, the opening hours of the ELTE ULA Savaria Library and Archives will be changed. We wish all our readers a pleasant autumn!

The presentations from the professional day „Traditions and Challenges XII”, organized by the ELTE University Library and Archives at the end of August, are now accessible online.

Nearly half of the numismatic material kept in the University Library and Archives - University History Collection are commemorative medals and plaques that our institution received as gifts from partner universities. The plaque made for the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Comenius University in Bratislava, chosen as the artifact of the month, was presented to ELTE for the 375th anniversary of the founding of the Eötvös Loránd University.
