Professional Consultation on Cataloguing and Acquisition The Collection Development Department of the University Library provides support for the descriptive and subject cataloguing (both formal and content-based) of documents – such as books, journals and manuscripts – available in the member libraries of the University Library Service (ULS). The department also offers guidance on acquisition-related issues and continuous professional support for librarians.
Collection Development Coordination The scope of documents to be acquired and included in the collection is governed by Appendix 5 of the Organizational and Operational Regulations of the University Library Service of Eötvös Loránd University, titled Collection Development Policy of the University Library Service.
General ILS Administration Staff members of the Collection Development Department and the IT and Development Department of the University Library ensure the full range of administrative tasks related to the Integrated Library System (ILS). These include handling requests regarding collections, running queries and services, performing deletions and corrections, configuring pre-installation tables, and setting up reader notifications, statuses and permissions.
The internal IT interface (EKLApps), created in the development of the University Library and Archives, is designed to support the daily work of ELTE librarians. The system primarily provides functions to support the internal operations of the University Library and Archives, but several of its features are also available to  network libraries to improve cooperation. The IT and Development Department of the University Library and Archives has the central role of high-level system administrator of the common integrated library system (ILS), in cooperation with the official support provided by the software vendor, if necessary. The service provides the University Library Service (ULS) member libraries with ongoing management and maintenance of their individual settings and the follow-up of incoming change requests.
COMPASS is a nationwide electronic catalogue that provides searchable access to the electronic scientific content available through national licenses or individual subscriptions at Hungarian higher education and research institutions, as well as their own developed databases.
At ELTE, the institutional contact and coordination tasks related to EISZ (Electronic Information Service National Programme) are performed by a member of the University Library and Archives staff appointed by the rector. Liaison and coordination tasks:
The ELTE Digital Institutional Repository (EDIT) serves as the official storage and archive for scientific and educational electronic documents produced at the University. By assigning persistent digital object identifiers, EDIT ensures permanent access and multi-faceted retrievability, thereby enhancing the visibility of these documents.
At ELTE, the institutional professional coordination of the Hungarian Scientific Works Database (MTMT) is carried out by a staff member of the Education and Research Support Department of the University Library and Archives.
